Robert Körner

Robert Körner studied ballet at the Palucca School in Dresden (1987-1989) and the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne (1989-1991). In 1999 he also completed the cultural management program at the Fernuniversität Hagen.

From 1991 to 1999 he was a soloist with the Saarländischen Staatstheater in Saarbrücken. In 1997 he took up the position of administrator and planning director there.

From 1999 to 2001 he worked in the project Städtischen Bühnen Osnabrück. In 2001 he took over as director of the theater in Dortmund, where he also served as casting director. Among the projects he was involved in were Wager’s ‘Der Ring des Nibelungen’, several world premieres and the anniversary season “100 Years of Theatre in Dortmund” (2004/2005).

Since 2007 Robert Körner has been the director of the Lyon National Opera, responsible for programming, casting, production and planning. Under his direction the opera has been involved in co-productions with the Metropolitan Opera, New York; the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; the Teatro alla Scala di Milano; the National Opera, Amsterdam; the Staatsoper Unter den Linden; the Gran Teatre del Liceu; the Canadian Opera Company, Toronto; the Royal Opera House, Muscat; the Wiener Festwochen; the Holland Festival, as well as festivals in Aix-en-Provence, Edinburgh, Aldeburgh, Athens and Tokyo. He has been the head of production for numerous CD and DVD recordings, television and video broadcasts and has supervised the organisation of numerous concert tours in France and abroad (Asia, America, New Zealand and Europe). He also runs the opera programme within the Young Artist Programme (in collaboration with the artistic director).

obert Körner also served as a jury member in numerous singing competitions.
